Jet Ski Back Bay From a Yellow Shack in Sandbridge
Guides lead you to the riding zone on Back Bay, then patrol the water while you ride.
Sandbridge sits at the southern end of Virginia Beach, a strip of land with the Atlantic on one side and Back Bay on the other. Virginia Beach Watersports runs its rentals from a yellow shack by the water on the bay side. Jonathan and Bethany Picking opened the family business in 2019.
The rental is 40 minutes on a Yamaha EX Sport. One booking covers one ski and up to two riders.

Booking closes two hours before the start time and confirms instantly. Two people sharing a ski book it as one traveler, as the listing asks.

Before anyone starts an engine, the crew runs a safety and operating briefing at the skis. A guide then leads riders on a two-minute run out to the riding zone in Back Bay.
About 35 of the 40 minutes are free riding. The guides stay out on the water as patrols, acting much like lifeguards. One rider in August 2026 summed up the format: "You follow the guide out to the designated area & they let you loose."
The ride back to the dock takes about three minutes.
Who Drives and Who Rides Behind

To drive, you need to be 18 and carry a valid government-issued photo ID. A second rider sits behind the driver. That is the limit, one passenger per ski.
The two riders together can weigh no more than 350 pounds. The operator's minimum age for a passenger is 6.
The listing does not recommend the ride for anyone with a spinal injury or poor cardiovascular health, and rates it suitable for all fitness levels. The skis are pitched at newcomers as well as thrill-seekers. A temporary boater safety certificate comes with the rental, and it is what lets a first-timer drive.
The Half Hour Before You Ride
Waivers come to your email ahead of time. Have everyone in your group sign them before you arrive.
Plan to be at the shack 30 minutes before your start time. That half hour covers check-in and the safety orientation. Turning up later than that gets the booking cancelled, with no refund.
When the Calendar Opens Again
On October 8, 2026, the booking calendar had no dates left this year. The earliest open date was April 16, 2027.
Eleven dates were open at that check, all in the second half of April, with starts at 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Every one fell between Wednesday and Sunday, the days the operator runs its 40-minute slots.
- Full refund when you cancel at least 24 hours before your start time
- No refund inside those 24 hours
- The operator can call off a ride for bad weather
📍 Virginia Beach Watersports is at 3713 Sandpiper Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23456, in Sandbridge. Park in the large gravel lot. The yellow shack sits behind the large white building, right by the water.
With the waivers signed ahead and the driver's photo ID in hand, the next 40 minutes belong to the bay.
