Jack Dunster Marine Biological Reserve
4.6 (58)park
Winding paths and floating platforms bring visitors right over the tidal marsh and native coastal habitats.
Description

Set along the Los Cerritos Channel next to the Rowing Center, this 2.7-acre reserve balances 1.5 acres of land with 1.2 acres of shallow water. A terraced retaining wall protects the grounds from runoff and currents, while a floating breakwater shields a miniature bay from channel boating traffic. At its western edge, a 132-foot dock allows access by boat. Across the site, varied ecological zones transition from coastal sage scrub and southern beach to inter-tidal mudflats and rocky shores.
