Description

Completed in 1882 under King Kalākaua, ʻIolani Palace served as the center of the Kingdom’s political and social life until the 1893 overthrow of the monarchy. Recognized as a National Historic Landmark, the site functions as a living restoration of Hawaiian national identity, retracing the era of Kalākaua and his sister and successor, Queen Liliʻuokalani. Visitors encounter meticulously preserved royal interiors alongside rich historical exhibits and docents who detail the final chapters of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
