Intimate Theater Puts You Close To The Stage
Catch groundbreaking work at a NoHo landmark that pairs its stages with Joe's Pub and the hum of passing subway trains.
🎭 Close To The Stage
Start in NoHo, where The Public Theater fills a landmark building at 425 Lafayette Street. Conceived more than 60 years ago as one of the first nonprofit theaters in the country, it was founded on the belief that art and culture belong to everyone, and that idea still runs through its off Broadway stages.
Inside, the Anspacher Theater brings the audience right up to the action, with comfortable seating just rows from the stage. A beautiful lobby frames the arrival, and the subway trains vibrating through the building add a low rumble that only New York could supply. Joe's Pub sits within the same landmark, giving a theater night a second room for live performance.
Food and drinks are served on site, and the building runs daily from 7 AM to 1 AM, long enough for a drink before curtain and another after the final bow. The same company is also tied to Free Shakespeare in the Park.
