Hidden beneath a Texas highway, this vast cave system reveals prehistoric animal bones and dramatic rock formations.
Description

Discovered in 1963 by a highway department core drilling team after remaining sealed for over 10,000 years, the cavern spans roughly a mile of chambers reached via a steep 50-foot descent. Inside, conditions hold at a steady 72 degrees year-round despite high humidity, and the space does not flood during rains.
Visits diverge between a fully lit walking route through expansive rooms and low-ceiling stretches and the unlit Hidden Passages tour, which leads smaller groups through total darkness using provided flashlights.
