In Downtown Phoenix, the Ghost Hunting Comes Before the Basement

A downtown Phoenix walk that hands you EMF detectors and spirit boxes early, then steps inside a hotel and Hanny's basement.

Get Ghosted Phoenix calls this its signature downtown tour, and the itinerary shows how the night is built. The gear comes out at the second and third stops, outside Rosson House and St. Mary's Basilica, where guests run their own checks with EMF detectors, spirit boxes and dowsing rods. Both indoor stops fall in the second half: the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown, which stands on the site of the old Adams Hotel, and then, after a short stop in Melinda's Alley, the basement under Hanny's. The rest of the walk happens on downtown sidewalks after dark.

The listing below sells one departure, 7:15 PM from Wednesday through Saturday, with dates open through December 31, 2026. As of October 21, 2026, the operator's own booking calendar has no departure on November 26 or 27, December 24, 25 or 26, or December 31, although the listing's schedule still shows those dates. For a holiday-week visit, book one of the other nights that week. Cancellation up to 24 hours before departure brings a full refund.

Rosson House and St. Mary's Get the Equipment

The night opens at the Teeter House, now home to Que Sazón, with ten minutes on Mrs. Teeter and what the listing calls her haunted legacy. The group then walks to Rosson House, where the equipment comes out for the first hunt, and on to St. Mary's Basilica, which the basilica's own history page calls the oldest Catholic parish in Phoenix and the only one until 1924, for the second. Both are worked from the outside: in a 2025 reply to a reviewer, the operator wrote that the Rosson House Museum and the Basilica are closed to the public at night. Arriving late costs you the hunts. In 2024 the operator told a reviewer who showed up late that the ghost hunting happens at two locations at the start of the tour. A February 2025 reviewer wrote that the whole group's EMF detectors spiked while the guide was describing her own experience at one of the stops.

A Hotel, an Alley, Then Down Under Hanny's

The second half moves indoors. The listing frames the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown stop around Phoenix's first luxury hotel and the fire that burned it down, and the operator's page adds reported hauntings and what it calls ghost letters. An August 2025 reviewer named it the creepiest stop of the night. Melinda's Alley comes next, a five-minute stop the listing ties to the infamous Melinda said to still roam it. Downtown Phoenix Inc.'s public art page spells her name Malinda "Malindy" Curtis and gives the haunting as local lore, a spirit "said to inhabit the alley to this day." The tour ends inside Hanny's on First Street, where an April 2025 reviewer described "a basement viewing of the famous porcelain dolls."

History Carries Most of the Two Hours

Reviews line up on the balance of the night. In a 2024 reply to a reviewer, the operator described the format it explains at the start as a hybrid of history, ghost stories and two stops for ghost hunting, and several 2024 reviewers found it mostly a history walk, one of them describing "peering at buildings from the outside." Guides carry a tablet of archival photos, which several reviewers in 2024 and 2025 mention approvingly, while one November 2024 reviewer felt their guide read from it the whole night. Reviews from 2024 through 2026 name a rotating set of guides, among them the founder, Nadine Economos.

Ages, Stairs and Cooler Nights

Every ticket on this listing is an adult ticket for ages 13 and up. Younger children cannot be booked here, although the operator's own tour page sets its minimum at 8. The listing marks all areas as wheelchair accessible; the operator's page is more precise: the route is accessible except the final stop, which requires stairs down into Hanny's basement. Groups top out at 20 on the operator's tour page, and one booking on this listing covers up to 12 people. The operator's page warns that desert nights cool fast in fall and winter and that a jacket is never wrong; NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals for Phoenix Sky Harbor put the average low near 66°F in October and near 45°F in December. The operator makes weather calls around 5 PM on tour day, and restrooms are available before and after the tour.

Meet at the bench in front of Que Sazón at the Teeter House, 622 E Adams St, and check in at 7:00 PM for the 7:15 PM start; the operator uses those 15 minutes to check everyone in and hand out the gear. Several ghost tour companies meet around Heritage Square. Look for a guide in a Future Ghost shirt with the Get Ghosted Phoenix logo and ask whether they are with Get Ghosted Phoenix before joining. The operator's booking notes point to street parking on Monroe St between 5th and 7th St, the Heritage Garage at 123 N 5th St, where event-night rates can climb to USD 30 to 40, or the light rail to Washington/3rd St from the 38th St/Washington Park & Ride. The tour ends at Hanny's, and the guide walks anyone who needs it back toward where they parked. Que Sazón offers a Boos & Brews menu to tour guests who mention it before or after. If the operator cancels for weather, the listing offers a different date or a full refund.
