Completed in 1933 as bachelor officers' quarters at NAS North Island, the room became a longtime after-work aviation hangout and the birthplace of The Tailhook Association in 1956. A 2019 modernization preserved its historic spirit, keeping the ceiling hung with over 300 prop model airplanes alongside extensive squadron memorabilia. Recreated onscreen as 'The Hard Deck' for the 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick, the cashless venue today remains open to military personnel and their approved guests.
