The Hudson Waterfront Route: A Clear Three-Stop Route

🪨 Start with the stones
Enter at North End Avenue and Vesey Street, then let the path climb through wildflowers, an Irish cottage, and stones brought from every Irish county. The Financial District rises behind the slope, sharpening the memorial's contrast between displacement and arrival. Pause near the upper viewpoint before moving north. Read the county names underfoot, then leave enough quiet for the site to do its work.
Middle stop details
Continue north to Pier 26 for the route's active turn. Volunteers provide a sit-on-top kayak, life jacket, gear, and a locker. You need to know how to swim, and you will get wet below the waist. Wind can roughen the water, and staff may close the line early. Bring your own towel and use the paddle as the day's brisk middle chapter.
🌅 Let the lookout close
Walk three blocks north to 297 West Street, where two telescopes face New Jersey and One World Trade Center stays in frame. The promenade is open around the clock, but late light makes the river and skyline easier to read. This is the slow finish after the paddle. Claim a telescope before sunset, then stay until the water changes color.
