Description

Developed by the Bureau of Parks and Recreation by 1950 on school board land acquired in 1881 and 1894, the playlot originally centered on a sandbox, spraypool, and play gear before gaining a basketball court several years later. The grounds offer no structured programming, functioning as an open neighborhood stop while scheduled activities run at nearby Moore Park. The Chicago Park District began managing the site in 1959 and completed a full transfer in 1991, keeping the name pulled from the adjacent street dedicated to nineteenth-century resident Gurdon S. Hubbard.
