Description

Local brewer Otto Koehler expanded the property in 1901, shaping Hot Wells into a retreat modeled on healing resorts across the country. Over the following decades, the complex weathered multiple fires and reinventions—operating as a school and later as an entertainment venue called the Flame before blazes and weather left it in ruins. Bexar County acquired the site in 2015 for preservation, opening it in 2019 as a public park where informational plaques chart each chapter of its storied rise, decline, and rescue.
