🔦 One Hour After Hours

🎬 What the Tour Covers

MoMI After Dark is an after-hours guided tour of the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, built around the spooky and mysterious corners of its film galleries. The gallery lights stay off for the whole tour, and the group moves by lantern. Stops include props from The Exorcist and The Silence of the Lambs along with special-effects demonstrations that show how screen scares get made. This week the tour runs Saturday, October 24, and it returns Saturday, October 31.

🕯️ Inside the Dark Galleries

A guide leads the group from display to display, and the lantern is the main light for about an hour. The effects demonstrations break up the walk and show the craft behind a scene instead of the finished frame. In the dark, familiar objects from the screen read differently, and the pace stays closer to a slow film than a haunted house. Plan on standing for the full tour and keeping close to the group.

🚇 Getting There and Tickets

The tour starts at 6 PM on Saturday, October 24, at 36-01 35th Avenue in Astoria, and the listed session ends at 7 PM. Regular Saturday museum hours also end at 6 PM, so plan to arrive a few minutes early rather than right on the hour. On Saturdays the R train stops at Steinway St, about a five-minute walk away, and the N stops at 36 Av, under ten minutes on foot. Tickets cost $50, members get 25 percent off, and online orders add a $1.50 fee per ticket.
