Hollyhock House
4.5 (677)museum
Frank Lloyd Wright’s hilltop UNESCO landmark pairs Mayan Revival motifs with breezy indoor-outdoor courtyards.
Description

Commissioned between 1919 and 1921 for oil heiress Aline Barnsdall as Frank Lloyd Wright's first Los Angeles project, the residence showcases his ‘California Roman Brick’ and textile-block styles. Wright integrated stylized hollyhock floral motifs throughout the structure, which extends toward private rooftop terraces on Olive Hill in East Hollywood. While visitors come for the craft and history, some note limited interior access.
