Description

Opened in 1982 and designed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood protection, the grounds can be explored by strolling or driving. Plantings are grouped geographically across major tropical regions—including Malaysia, Polynesia, Africa, and Tropical America—set alongside a sprawling 32-acre lake, palm collections, and walking paths. The center adds educational context for the site, named to mean 'a peaceful refuge.'
