Description

Operating as a nomadic memory-activism platform, the project preserves the history of Oregon's second-largest World War II city, which was completely destroyed by a catastrophic flood on Memorial Day in 1948. Vanport Mosaic shares these accounts through public exhibits, theatrical productions, festivals, and immersive audio walks like 'Lost City, Living Memories', focusing closely on the resilient stories of the African American and working-class shipyard workers who called the city home.
