Description

Built in August 1861 along the Anacostia River as part of the Eastern Branch Line, the fort was laid out with a 220-yard perimeter, flanked by Fort Dupont to the north and Fort Baker to the southeast. It was named in honor of Colonel Benjamin F. Davis, who was killed at the Combat of Beverly Ford, Virginia on June 9, 1863, and was abandoned in 1865.
