🌳 History in the Open

Boston Common stands as an iconic historic Boston public park dating back to 1634. Broad lawns, shaded trees, ballfields, and memorials thread across nearly fifty acres right along the downtown Freedom Trail route. The Parkman Bandstand offers a familiar gathering landmark, giving visitors plenty of room to explore freely.

Frog Pond anchors the center of the park and shifts with each season. Cold weather brings ice skating on the frozen surface, while warmer months bring wading pools and family lawn games. This constant seasonal rotation provides a welcome pause between busy downtown sights and lets travelers rest beneath mature elm canopies.

Gates open daily from 6 AM until half past eleven at night. Travelers can wander paved paths, relax on open grass, and take in centuries of civic heritage at their own pace.
