Herald Theatre, Aotea Centre

Tucked away within the Aotea Centre, this 186-seat venue serves as a dedicated hub for experimental work, ranging from new playwriting to international micro-circus. The space is anchored by a retro-styled foyer, which features a prominent mural by artist Jeena Shin, and includes its own theatre bar for patrons. While its location can feel slightly obscured, the experience is defined by a distinctly intimate scale that brings audiences close to the stage. Be prepared for a space that balances its specific aesthetic charm with a notoriously brisk climate control system and varied reports regarding the comfort of its seating.
