A Portland fixture since 1940, this temple preserves Shingon Buddhist traditions through regular services and classes.
Description

First established by Bishop Daiyu Henjyoji and his wife Wako Henjyoji, the temple was dedicated at its current Portland location in 1951, preserving a history of Japanese-American resilience. It continues the spiritual transmission of Kobo Daishi, the founder of the Shingon School of Japanese Buddhism, and serves practitioners across the Portland metro area and the wider West Coast. Today, the non-profit holds its gatherings, classes, and services both in-person and online.
