Help Inflate the Balloon, Then Watch Albuquerque Wake Up
Where you launch is decided that morning by the wind. What is fixed is the shape of it: help with the inflation, stand for the whole flight, then wait for the chase van to find you.
The pilot picks the launch field on the morning of the flight. Wind direction decides it, and wind direction is not known the night before, so the address on your booking is an office and the launch site is settled later.
That office sits on the north side of Albuquerque. You check in there, sign the waiver, and ride out in one of the company vans. There are no seats in the basket, and the operator requires every passenger to stand unassisted for the length of the flight. The balloon comes back down wherever the wind puts it, and a chase van follows the whole way to collect you.

Rainbow Ryders says it has been flying since 1983 and that it schedules sunrise departures in Albuquerque every day of the year. Weather still has the final word on any given morning.
Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Ride at SunriseSunrise flight with Rainbow Ryders over the Rio Grande Valley. Covers the transfer to and from the launch site, a toast on landing, light snacks and a flight certificate. Gratuities are not included.www.viator.comMost of This Morning Happens on the Ground

Allow three to four hours from check-in to the moment you are back at your car. The operator's figure for the flight itself is forty-five minutes to an hour, and the listing blocks out four hours for the whole thing.
The company puts the inflation at about fifteen minutes, and the crew will let you help with it. Once you are down, the ground crew packs the envelope, pours the toast, and drives you back to the office, where the snacks and the flight certificate are waiting.
Sunrise moves through the year and the meeting time moves with it. The operator's rule is to meet thirty minutes before sunrise, and it asks you to call 1-800-725-2477 to confirm the exact time for your date.
The Basket Is Shared, and You Stand in It

One booking on this page covers up to six travelers. The basket holds more than that. The operator describes its baskets as taking two to four people and up to twelve to fourteen; the listing describes a shared basket of ten to sixteen. Either way, expect company.
The listing marks this as suitable for all physical fitness levels. The operator's own requirements are narrower. To fly you have to be at least five years old, able to stand unassisted for the length of the flight, able to swing your legs over the side of the basket to get in, and able to jump down from about the height of a dining chair to get out. Walkers and wheelchairs cannot come aboard, and the company says it cannot fly anyone who is pregnant or may be pregnant.
Service animals are welcome. The company asks that they come to the office before the flight date to test their reaction to the noise the burners make.
Two Desks, Two Cancellation Deadlines
The booking made through the link above refunds in full if you cancel at least twenty-four hours before the scheduled departure.
The operator's own desk asks for forty-eight hours. Inside that window, or if you do not show, it keeps half the flight payment and adds a rescheduling fee of USD 35 per person. It says those charges stand even for illness or weather, and that a voucher bought through a third-party seller is voided outright, with no credit carried forward. Work to the forty-eight hour line and neither deadline can catch you.
Weather is the other variable, and it runs the other way. Flights go only with safe winds, clear sky and no rain. If the morning does not clear, the listing gives you another date or a full refund.
What the Fare Leaves Out
The fare covers the flight, the pilot, the transfer to and from the launch site, and the toast and snacks afterwards. Three things sit outside it.
- Gratuities. The company puts a typical tip at ten to twenty percent of the total.
- Anyone at 300 pounds or over has to buy a second space, which the operator explains as a matter of weight distribution in the basket.
- Hotel pickup. The listing excludes it and the operator states plainly that the service is not offered, so getting to the office on time is on you.
Dress for the ground temperature. The balloon travels with the wind, so there is no wind chill, and the company suggests layers, long pants, closed-toe shoes, a hat and sunscreen.
📍 Check-in is at 5601 Eagle Rock Ave NE, on the north side of Albuquerque. The office line is 1-800-725-2477, and it is the number the operator asks you to call to confirm your departure time. The chase crew drives you back to that same address at the end, so you finish where you started.
By then it is still early. The toast has been poured, the certificate is in your hand, and most of the city is only getting to its first coffee.
