Founded in 1995, Hebni takes its name from the Egyptian spelling of "ebony" and an acronym for Health Education through Behavioral and Nutritional Initiatives. The organization develops targeted strategies to prevent, manage, and delay chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. Grounding its guidance in everyday cooking, the founders authored six American Diabetes Association cookbooks dedicated to healthy soul food. Neighborhood outreach runs through its Nutrition Resource Center in the 32805 area and the Fresh Stop Mobile Farmers Market, which serves local food deserts.
