Hear LA Symphonies and Catch Second-Story Drag
Live music spans jazz and organ recitals, while a seaweed-draped bar offers an intimate room for conversation. Check concert dates before booking and confirm event-specific cover charges at the gay bar.
Downtown and Little Tokyo
Grand Avenue Overture
Frank Gehry's stainless-steel Walt Disney Concert Hall houses the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Downtown Los Angeles. Acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota led the hall's sound engineering. Tiered seating across the auditorium keeps sightlines open from nearly every angle. The calendar also includes jazz and organ recitals. There is no formal dress code. Check the performance date and start time before building a weekend evening around a concert. All ticket sales are final.

Little Tokyo Nightcap
Doors at The Mermaid open daily at 6:00 PM and stay open until 1:40 AM. Entry is free. Honda Plaza houses the 50-seat bar. Palm wallpaper, dangling seaweed and looping mermaid footage give the room its aquatic theme. Order a themed cocktail under the hanging decor. Strong pours come at inexpensive prices. Happy hour runs until 8:00 PM for an earlier start to the evening.

Upstairs After Dark
Friday nights at Precinct DTLA center on drag shows, with performances starting at 11:30 PM. The rock-and-roll gay bar occupies a brick-lined second floor on South Broadway. Move between the large indoor dance floor and the open-air Broadway terrace. Entry is limited to guests ages 21 and older. Cover charges vary by event. The bar stays open until 2:00 AM Tuesday through Saturday. Sunday hours end at midnight.
