Description

Covering 1,841 acres along San Francisco Bay, the shoreline incorporates a spectrum of salt, fresh, and brackish water marshes shaped by long-running ecological restorations. Oro Loma Marsh provides tidal wetlands and transitional uplands, while Hayward Marsh circulates treated effluent through five managed ponds and 15 nesting islands. Alongside routes open to hiking, bicycling, and fishing, paths pass historical remnants of 1850s salt production and shipping landings, keeping the coast's commercial past visible against the water.
