Description

Gifted by publishing magnate Enid Haupt for the Committee for a More Beautiful Capital, the landmark anchors the axis at Sixteenth Street and Constitution Avenue. Each fountain is fashioned from a single slab of rainbow granite weighing 55 tons and measuring nearly a foot thick, quarried in Morton, Minnesota, from stone more than 3.5 million years old. Located near the White House grounds, the fountains offer a peaceful stop during walks and clear angles for photos.
