Description

Built around 1733 by Ephraim Hartwell, the building originally served as a family residence and licensed tavern for travelers along the Bay Road. Today, the site is preserved within Minute Man National Historical Park and operated by the National Park Service as a living history center. Its setting reflects the roadside tavern atmosphere that became central to Revolutionary War history when colonial militiamen gathered here during the events of April 1775.
