Harlem's Rock Outcrop Anchors Summer Park Days
Catch a concert, claim a shaded lawn, or brave the crowded pool in this green space off Mount Morris Park West.
🪨 Meet by the Rock
Marcus Garvey Park is built around a signature rock outcrop, and that stone ridge is where the neighborhood comes to sit and read. Below it, a community center, basketball courts, and playgrounds spread across shaded lawns, with an amphitheater, athletic fields, and a dog park adding to the mix.
Summer is when the park turns up the volume. Concerts bring the community together, and the outdoor pool gets packed on hot afternoons, which rewards an early arrival with a towel and a plan. The central paths stay the liveliest part of the grounds, with readers by the rock and families moving between the playgrounds and the courts.
Bring a picnic blanket for the lawns, a ball for the courts, or the dog for its own run. The gates are open daily from 6 AM to 10 PM, wide enough for a sunrise walk before work or a long evening on the grass after a summer concert.
