Harlem Gospel Choir Brings Sunday Brunch to Blue Note

The Harlem Gospel Choir draws its singers and musicians from Black churches in Harlem and the New York tri-state area. What it plays is modern gospel classics as performed in the black churches of Harlem today, gospel as a Sunday congregation hears it rather than a concert-hall arrangement. The choir has toured for decades, performed alongside Bono, Diana Ross and Sia, and sang with Sam Smith at the 2018 Grammy Awards.

Blue Note is a jazz room at 131 West 3rd Street, and Sunday brunch is served at the tables while the choir sings. All seating is first come, first served, so arrive early; guests who come separately are not guaranteed to sit together. The bar area holds limited seats and becomes standing room once they are taken. Groups larger than eight must buy a group package in advance, at club@bluenote.net or by calling 212.475.8592; without one, group surcharges are added to the bill.

One show runs Sunday, November 8, at 1:30 PM, with doors at noon. Tickets are sold only on Ticketweb, and the club does not honor tickets bought from third-party sellers. Ticketweb prices seats from about 38 to 44 dollars with fees included, and the 20 dollar minimum per person sits on top of that, so plan on roughly 58 to 64 dollars each before tax and tip on the food. The credit card used for the original purchase is required at the door. Table seating welcomes every age; the bar area is 21 and over. W 4 St-Washington Sq, served by the A, C, E, B, D, F and M lines, is about three minutes on foot. Tickets are sold with no refunds or exchanges.
