Sugar Bun Bakery has served Howard Beach from 1964 onward, and the kitchen prepares its entire lineup on the premises. Fresh bagels are rolled by hand, making breakfast a natural starting point for an early stop. Custom cakes sit alongside classic pastries, with a menu that reaches beyond a quick morning pickup at the counter.
The sweet selection includes sweet rolls, butter cookies and muffins stuffed with chocolate mousse. Deli sandwiches and soups made in house give the shop a savory side as well. Pick up something for lunch alongside dessert, or keep the order to a few baked treats for later in the day.
The bakery on Cross Bay Boulevard has a free parking lot out back. It opens at 6 AM daily, closing at 3 PM on Monday, 6 PM Tuesday through Saturday, and 5 PM on Sunday.
