Description

Built at the turn of the 20th century on what was then NYU's uptown campus, this open-air monument overlooks the Harlem River. The walk showcases 102 bronze busts, though some of the historical quotes have become difficult to read over time. Visitors frequently note a disconnect between the landmark and its setting, pointing out that the collection of honorees lacks demographic diversity and does not reflect the student body that now surrounds it.
