Great Falls Park
4.7 (92)park
The Potomac surges through rocky Mather Gorge, flanked by rugged hiking trails and early American canal ruins.
Description

Spanning 800 acres along the Potomac a few miles upstream from Washington, D.C., the park borders both Maryland and Virginia. A broader trail network includes easy walks leading out to the ghost town of Matildaville. Inside the gorge, visitors can observe whitewater kayaking and rock climbing, set against river waters explicitly flagged as extremely dangerous.
