Gramercy Park
park
A historic private square ringed by 19th-century brownstones, accessible only to keyholders from surrounding buildings.
Description

The enclave's roots date to around 1829, when Samuel Ruggles acquired the rights to develop Gramercy Park. That same period shaped the nearby pocket at East 18th Street and Irving Place, where an 1829 building constructed as a hotel or residence drew a gathering crowd distinct from the Bowery.
