Golden's Ghost Walk Puts the Stories Ahead of the Drinks

A costumed guide leads this 2.5-hour, 21-and-over evening walk through historic downtown Golden, Colorado, with Wild West tales along Clear Creek and your first drink included.

Golden History Tours sums this one up on its own page: This is more of a ghost tour with drinks than a pub crawl with ghosts. A costumed guide walks the group through Golden after dark with tales of restless spirits, Wild West outlaws and the town's stranger moments. The first drink is included, poured at the first bar. Every drink after that goes on your own tab. Each guest also leaves with a golden bandana.

The listing sells two evening departures, one at 7:00 PM and one at 7:30 PM. Its calendar opens only some nights. Pick the date first and plan the evening around it.

From Clear Creek to 12th Street After Dark

The walk starts in the living room at Goosetown Station, then heads into town through the parks along Clear Creek and up Washington Avenue for a drink stop midway. The second half climbs 12th Street, which the listing calls Golden's old white-collar district. The operator puts the route at about 1.5 miles of mostly flat city terrain. The listing and the operator both say this is not a paranormal investigation, and no ghost-hunting equipment comes along.

Expect History First and Chills Second

Reviewers keep landing on the same point. One wrote in October 2023 that the stories were "not particularly spooky or haunting, but certainly historical and enjoyable." A two-star review from October 2025 found the night light on ghost stories and heavy on early criminals, and the operator replied publicly that the guide had gone off script. Book it for Golden's history told with a dark edge; real chills are a bonus. Pacing draws mixed notes too. A four-star review in October 2025 asked for about five more minutes at the second pub.

Who Can Join, and What to Wear

Every guest has to be 21 or older. The listing sells adult tickets only, and the operator calls this the one tour in its lineup that is not suitable for children. Dogs stay home as well, per the operator's FAQ. The listing marks the tour as wheelchair accessible, and the operator says its tours follow sidewalks and groomed paths with no stairs or big hills; it asks guests to mention any access needs when booking. The listing does not recommend the tour for travelers with spinal injuries or for pregnant travelers. Most of the evening is spent outdoors after dark. One group out in November 2022 called it a very cold night. Dress for the temperature after sunset.

Where to Park and Where the Night Ends

The operator says Goosetown Station has extremely limited parking. The tour ends in Miners Alley, a few blocks from the start, where the group chooses between a couple of bars to finish the night. The listing recommends parking in one of the downtown garages, which the operator places just east of Washington Avenue between 11th and 13th streets. Park Golden Co, which manages Golden's parking, says downtown paid parking now covers every day of the week, weekends and holidays included. In the garages the first two hours are free with a registered license plate, then $2.50 an hour up to $10 a day, plus a 49-cent fee per payment, and Park Golden Co lists free parking options after 5 PM. One more check: the operator says some of its ghost tours start at Mountain Toad Brewing instead, and asks guests to read the confirmation email for the starting point.

Booked through this listing, the ticket refunds in full when cancelled at least 24 hours ahead, and not after that. The operator walks through passing showers and stops for lightning. Get to Goosetown Station early: ghost tour guests pay no cover there, and the operator suggests live music and a meal before the walk starts. Goosetown's own site puts its live music on Thursday through Saturday, with doors at 4 PM and music from 5 PM.
