Started in San Marcos in the late 1960s as Golden Fried Chicken, the chain was launched by a former industry employee aiming to build a better franchise model. The concept grew around secret marination and batter mixes, eventually expanding to more than 150 locations before a 1990s overhaul introduced the modern name, updated dining rooms, and an expanded menu.
