Ghost-Hunting the Savannah Theatre From Stage to Projection Room

History talk and gear briefing first, then guests roam the darkened theatre with meters, night-vision cameras and spirit boxes.

The Savannah Theatre at 222 Bull Street still puts on live shows. On most nights from Tuesday to Sunday it also hosts a public paranormal investigation starting at 10:30 PM, which, by the operator's own account, the local outfit Ghost Coast Paranormal runs for the theatre as a paid contractor.

Reviewers describe a history talk and a gear briefing first, then free run of the building, with the hosts nearby to help. Courtney Knight and Micah Watkins own the company, and guest reviews from 2025 and 2026 name the two of them as the hosts.

Booking holds one place at the 10:30 PM start, at USD 91 per person on the listing, refundable in full up to 24 hours before. As of October 22, 2026, October 23 was not on sale, and the theatre's own booking calendar has no investigation that night; the Halloween 10:30 PM start was sold out.

Opened in 1818, Remodeled in Art Deco After 1948

The theatre dates its opening night to December 4, 1818, with the comedy The Soldier's Daughter and the farce Raising the Wind on the bill. Its own history page credits the original building to the architect William Jay and records repeated renovations after fires.

The front guests walk past today is the Art Deco remodel that followed the 1948 fire, and the house reopened as a movie theater on October 21, 1950. In the fall of 1993, Paramount leased it as the wardrobe and makeup base for the Tom Hanks bench scenes in Forrest Gump.

Paranormal television has been through here too. Travel Channel's Portals to Hell premiered an episode titled "Savannah Theatre" on April 30, 2022, with Jack Osbourne and Katrina Weidman investigating inside, and the listing says the theatre has also been featured on Expedition X.

Reviewers describe the night starting with this history and the ghost stories tied to the building, alongside the equipment briefing. One guest in April 2025 timed that history portion at about an hour and a quarter.

Backstage, the Balcony and Both Dressing Rooms

The operator lists the areas open to guests: the backstage areas, the main stage, the men's and women's dressing rooms, the balcony, the projection room and the stairwell. The theatre's own page adds that backstage and the balcony are where many of the reported sightings happened.

Equipment is included and handed out after a briefing: K2 meters, voice recorders, 8K night-vision cameras, REM devices, music boxes, laser grids, spirit boxes, an XLS camera, ultrasonic sensors, EMF bells and divination tools. A September 2026 review sums up the setup: "They give you all the equipment you need and show you how to use it."

It is a shared night, with everyone booked for that start time loose in the same building. One reviewer in August 2026 wished groups were rotated through the active rooms because people walking in kept changing the mood, while a May 2026 reviewer credited a small group with less interference and more time with the hosts.

Three Hours That Can Run Past 1:30 AM

The listing sells three hours, and both the listing and the operator's FAQ put the window at 10:30 PM to 1:30 AM. The FAQ adds that a night sometimes runs over, and a May 2026 reviewer wrote that the hosts stayed an extra 45 minutes once activity picked up.

One October 2025 reviewer noted that the hosts say they cannot promise activity, and the reviews include both quiet nights and nights with plenty of readings.

Transport is not included, so arrange the ride back for a time after 1:30 AM. The free dot shuttle downtown, run by Chatham Area Transit, stops at 7 PM on weekdays and 6 PM on weekends. If you drive, city street meters north of Liberty Street, the side the theatre is on, are enforced only until 8 PM, and the city's State Street Garage at Abercorn and State streets is listed as open 24 hours and takes cards only.

Ages 16 and Up, and a Phone Call About Access

The listing sells a single adult ticket for ages 16 to 99, and the operator limits its public investigations to guests 16 and older because of the adult themes in its stories.

The listing marks the experience as wheelchair accessible, while the operator's own investigation page asks guests to call about wheelchair and accessibility restrictions. The areas on the night include a balcony, a projection room and a stairwell, and neither the listing nor that page says which of them can be reached without stairs. The operator's number is (912) 744-9520. Snacks and alcoholic drinks are not included.

📍 Meet at the Savannah Theatre's front doors, 222 Bull Street, across from Chippewa Square, for the 10:30 PM start. Some Tuesday-to-Sunday nights are blacked out, so book a date the calendar shows open.
