Georgetown by the Bite, Starting Beside the Exorcist Steps

A Georgetown food walk from the old Car Barn to Thomas Jefferson Street, with four tastings and a guide who lives in DC.

Taste Georgetown starting at the Exorcist Steps.

The operator's booking page lists one tour, and it stays inside Georgetown. Acquired Taste Food Tours puts the start at 3520 Prospect Street NW, the Prospect Street door of the Georgetown Car Barn, and the finish at 1071 Thomas Jefferson Street NW, with about a mile on foot in between.

The Car Barn went up between 1895 and 1897 as a terminal for the Capital Traction Company's streetcars. The staircase built beside it to join M Street and Prospect Street is the one later filmed for The Exorcist. Georgetown University owns the building today.

The booking calendar shows departures at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM on every day from January 2 through December 23, with weekend dates priced higher than weekdays. One booking takes up to ten travelers and needs an adult on it. Children aged 2 to 12 pay the adult rate, and under-2s go free.

Four Stops, One of Them at a Restaurant Table

The listing names the plates by type: a taste of Italy, a DC favorite pastry, a taste of Kosher and a special dish that changes with the season. The operator adds that one of the four stops is a restaurant where you are seated and get the full restaurant experience without the wait.

Travelers in 2025 and 2026 describe a run that usually opens with a breakfast bagel sandwich, moves through a vegetarian taco and an Italian plate of pizza or steak salad, and ends on a cupcake. That order is a recent pattern, and the seasonal dish rotates. Drinks sit outside the tasting list. The operator sells a separate drink pairing, and its version with alcohol is for guests 21 and over with ID.

Rain or Snow, the Walk Still Goes

The operator's FAQ says rain or snow does not stop the show, and the tour carries on. On the booking side, cancelling at least 24 hours before departure brings a full refund, and later cancellations bring nothing back.

Between bites, travelers mention the Georgetown University campus, the Exorcist steps, the C&O Canal and streets of row houses. The listing ticks boxes for all fitness levels and for strollers, while travelers describe stairs, bumpy sidewalks and plenty of walking. In 2026 one traveler's mother gave out before the last stop, and the guide went ahead and brought the cupcakes back to her. The operator's own site says nothing about access.

No Swaps for Dietary Needs

The operator's FAQ says it cannot accommodate dietary restrictions, and the listing adds that there are no food allergy accommodations. In 2026 a vegetarian who says she flagged it when booking had nothing to eat at one stop and was told to wait for the next. The menu also cuts the other way: in 2025 one traveler got a vegetarian taco and an eggplant pizza back to back and noted that neither had meat. With a food allergy, the operator's own answer is no.

Small Groups, Children and the Tip

One booking covers up to ten people, and the operator's FAQ tells anyone planning a proposal with friends along to book all ten slots for that day's tour. Several travelers between 2024 and 2026 were the only guests on their departure, and the tour ran anyway.

Children aged 2 to 12 pay the adult price. A 2024 grandmother brought her grandchildren, and a 2025 couple's 16-year-old grandson liked it most of the tours on their trip. Gratuities are not included, and service animals are allowed.

📍 The operator's start address is 3520 Prospect Street NW, on the Prospect Street side of the Georgetown Car Barn, near the top of the Exorcist steps. The building also fronts M Street a full staircase below, and in 2025 a traveler's guide texted about thirty minutes before the start.

The walk ends at 1071 Thomas Jefferson Street NW, east of where it began. The operator's own advice is to arrive hungry, and one traveler adds to leave time afterward for M Street.
