A Capitol Grounds bronze pairing an over-life-size President Garfield with figures tracing his life and career.
Description

Sculpted by John Quincy Adams Ward and cast by The Henry-Bonnard Co. of New York, the monument is anchored by a tapered, cylindrical granite pedestal designed by Richard Morris Hunt. In total, the composition mounts four over-life-size bronze figures, elevating Garfield's likeness at the top and situating three allegorical figures representing different phases of his career below. First unveiled on May 12, 1887, at the circle of First Street, S.W., and Maryland Avenue, the site was officially incorporated into the U.S. Capitol Grounds in 1975.
