From Smokey Bear's Gate to Just Below the Hollywood Sign
A guided 90-minute walk from a gate in the Hollywood Hills to photo spots right under the letters.
This is the short way to the Hollywood Sign. Bikes and Hikes LA runs it as a guided walk of about 90 minutes on an easy trail, ending at photo viewpoints below the letters.
The operator is clear about what it leaves out. The walk stops beneath the sign and does not climb up behind it. That is the job of its separate three-hour hike.
What you keep is most of the day. The operator pitches the walk as an easy fit before or after Universal Studios or Warner Bros., both a few minutes away.

Booking runs through the listing below. Travelers from 2 to 17 pay the child rate, and children under 2 go free. One booking takes up to 15 travelers, and a private upgrade adds USD 175 to the per-person price for your own start time and a dedicated guide.

The listing puts the distance at 1.8 miles on what it calls an easy trail, and rates the walk suitable for all physical fitness levels.
Along the way the stops look over Lake Hollywood and the Hollywood Reservoir, a frequent backdrop in film and TV, then out across Griffith Park toward Griffith Observatory and the towers of Downtown Los Angeles.
The same listing says the walk is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. Weigh that line before booking for an older relative.
A Guide Who Knows Where to Stand

Guides are CPR and first aid certified locals, and photo help is part of the package, from posed shots to short TikTok and Instagram clips.
The stories cover how the sign went up, why it once read Hollywoodland and how close it came to falling apart. The operator says its guides know exactly where to stand so the letters fill the frame.
Tips are not included. Guides accept cash or payment apps.
Getting to Innsdale Trail
The meeting point is 6298 Innsdale Trail in the Hollywood Hills. Type the full address, since the listing warns that navigation can send you to the wrong spot. Your guide waits behind the long white gate next to the Smokey Bear sign, in a neon yellow Bikes and Hikes vest.
There is no parking nearby on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. Monday to Thursday, outside holidays, free street parking is close by. Public transit stops short of the trailhead, so the operator suggests Uber or Lyft for the last stretch.
This is a residential street. The operator asks guests to leave the people in the houses alone.
Water, Shoes and One Last Restroom
Bring your own water. The listing makes it a requirement for this walk.
There is no restroom at the trailhead, so find one before you head up. Wear closed-toe shoes with good tread, sunscreen and a hat, and pack a light jacket if the day looks cool.
Strollers work on this route, and the operator also suggests a hiking carrier for small children. Service animals are allowed.
Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your start time to check in. The group leaves on schedule and cannot hold for latecomers, since other guests are booked on the same departure.
As of November 5, 2026, the booking calendar shows a 9:00 AM and a 2:45 PM start each day through March 13, 2027, with the afternoon start moving to 4:15 PM from March 14. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund. The operator can also call off a departure for bad weather.
Ninety minutes later you are back at the white gate with the photos taken and the rest of the afternoon still open.
