From Plaza Steps to the Miraculous Staircase in Santa Fe
A small-group morning walk through Santa Fe's adobe core, from the Plaza to Loretto Chapel's spiral staircase and the Oldest House.
Rebecca and her husband Timo run About Santa Fe Tours, and the listing names one of them as the guide on each small-group walk. It times eight stops at about 140 of the tour's 180 minutes, among them the Palace of the Governors, the Cathedral Basilica, Sena Plaza, Loretto Chapel, Barrio de Analco and the Oldest House. The guides' own site adds La Fonda to the walk, and Loretto Chapel's admission is covered by the booking.

Departures run Monday through Saturday, at 9:00 AM through October and 9:30 AM from November. The listing caps a shared group at ten; the guides' own site says no more than eight.
Santa Fe Small Group History Walking TourAbout three hours on foot from Santa Fe Plaza with Rebecca or Timo, in English. All fees and taxes included, Loretto Chapel admission among them, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.www.viator.comThe Plaza, the Palace, and a Cathedral Shut on Mondays

The listing gives the Plaza about twenty minutes of Santa Fe and New Mexico history and the Palace of the Governors ten, calling the Palace the oldest continuously occupied public building in the United States. The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi gets twenty. The cathedral's own site lists it as closed to visitors on Mondays and says funerals and weddings can change its hours. When the doors are shut, the listing and the guides' FAQ both say the group still gets the building's history, and the FAQ suggests coming back later to see inside. From Tuesday to Saturday it opens to visitors at 9:30 AM.
Across to Barrio de Analco and the Oldest House

South of the Plaza, Barrio de Analco gets fifteen minutes; the listing calls it one of the oldest neighborhoods in the United States and uses the stop to tell the story of San Miguel Chapel. It is the only stop on the itinerary where the listing marks admission as not included. San Miguel Chapel's own site lists entry at USD 7, USD 5 for seniors 65 and over and US military veterans, and free for children under 12, card only, with visiting hours from 10:00 AM Monday to Saturday. The Oldest House on East De Vargas Street gets another fifteen, and the listing promises a visit inside along with the history of adobe building; the house's own site says the museum is entered through its gift shop.
A Secret Near Sena Plaza and a Staircase at Loretto
Sena Plaza gets twenty minutes. The listing calls it one of Santa Fe's oldest homes and promises the city's greatest secret on the same block without saying what it is; among the sights one traveler listed was Oppenheimer's office. The National Park Service notes that Trujillo Plaza, at 109 East Palace Avenue on that block, had become a check-in site for the secret Manhattan Project in Los Alamos by the 1940s. Loretto Chapel gets twenty-five minutes, the longest timed stop on the walk. The chapel's own site says it hosts over 100 weddings and special events a year and may close without notice during regular hours. Its FAQ adds that the staircase is roped off for preservation and safety, and that photos for personal use are allowed. Another traveler singled out the chapel and its back story as the most interesting part.
Altitude, Pace and Who Can Book
The listing asks for at least moderate fitness and does not recommend the walk for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. Its one ticket type covers ages 9 to 80, and every booking needs an adult. Reviewers split on the pace: two 80-year-olds found the walking no problem, while another expected more walking and called it more of a stroll. On access, the guides' FAQ says most stops are accessible and that exceptions are flagged in a tour's highlights; neither the listing nor the guides' tour page flags one for this walk.
📍 Meet in the very center of Santa Fe Plaza, at the front steps of the covered stage. The guides' FAQ puts the city at 7,000 feet and cancels winter tours, with a full refund, when snow is accumulating or it is colder than 35 degrees counting wind chill. Cancel at least 24 hours out for a full refund. Bring water in a bottle with a closed lid, the only drink Loretto Chapel lets inside, eat first, and come with questions; reviewers say the guides take them the whole way.
