From a Waikiki Pickup to Spinner Dolphins Off West Oahu

A bus from Waikiki to Waianae, then three hours offshore: spinner dolphins from the deck, a turtle snorkel, a slide and hula.

Dolphins and You runs this trip off Oahu's west coast, about an hour's drive from Waikiki without traffic. A bus collects guests at select Waikiki hotels, and the boat leaves Waianae Boat Harbor at 8:00 AM or 12:00 PM for three hours on the water. The crew looks for wild Hawaiian spinner dolphins first, then stops at a snorkel spot for green sea turtles and tropical fish. After that come the water slide, kayaks and paddleboards, lunch on deck, and hula from the crew on the way back.

The dolphins are watched from the boat; the swim comes later, at the snorkel spot.

As of October 28, 2026, the listing below charges USD 183 per adult and USD 159 per child aged 2 to 11. Children under 2 cannot join. The three booking options differ only by lunch: a turkey sandwich, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or a spinach wrap. With no lunch picked, the operator serves the turkey sandwich.

Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund; inside 24 hours, the listing's notes say a full refund needs a doctor's note. Pickup from the listed hotels is included, and the pickup point and time should be confirmed with the operator before the day.

A Fifty-Yard Rule Shapes the Dolphin Watching

The operator says it complies with the federal rule that bars approaching or staying within 50 yards of spinner dolphins, out to two nautical miles from shore around Oahu. Its trips have offered dolphin watching only from December 1, 2021. Sightings are not guaranteed, though the operator says the vast majority of its tours do encounter dolphins.

The snorkel stop is its own part of the trip. Masks, fins and a safety jacket come with the booking, no snorkeling experience is required, and the crew gives safety briefings. Full-face snorkel masks are not allowed; the operator supplies traditional gear.

After the Snorkel, a Water Slide Into the Ocean

Back on the boat, the water slide, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards come out, depending on ocean and weather conditions. The listing describes a 20-foot slide, while the operator's own tour page calls it 14 feet. Lunch is served on board, and the listing pairs it with chips and lemonade.

The Bus Starts Rolling at 6:00 AM

For the 8:00 AM boat, pickups run from 6:00 AM at Aqua Palms Waikiki to 6:35 AM at the Waikiki Marriott, with the Ala Moana Hotel, DFS T Galleria and Hyatt Regency in between, then 7:15 AM at Aulani, A Disney Resort in Kapolei. For the noon boat, each pickup is four hours later, starting at 10:00 AM.

Wear your swimsuit onto the bus; the operator says there is no changing facility or time at the harbor. Shoes come off before boarding and are stored on board; clean reef shoes and grip socks are allowed. The operator asks for one bag per person and suggests a large beach towel, mineral sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a long-sleeve layer in winter, and motion sickness medicine taken before leaving the hotel.

Lunch Is Set in Advance, and Departures Need a Minimum

The listing says meals are not customizable and allergy or gluten-free requests cannot be accommodated; guests with dietary restrictions are asked to bring their own meal. Outside alcohol is not allowed on board. Bring a card for the extras: drinks, the photo package and wetsuit rental are paid during the trip, and gratuities are not included. The listing prices the wetsuit at USD 5 a person, while the operator's own booking page lists USD 10 and drinks at USD 5 each; the operator is the one taking the payment.

The listing says a departure needs at least 10 bookings, or the booking may be moved to another date; the operator's own tour page sets the minimum at 10 passengers. Weather and ocean conditions can also change the activities or cancel a departure. Children aged 2 to 11 need an adult with them, and the listing does not recommend the trip for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. The listing marks the tour as not wheelchair accessible, and the operator says neither its buses nor its boat is.

📍 Check-in is at Waianae Boat Harbor, 85-491 Farrington Hwy, in front of the brown restroom building; the pin marks the harbor. Guests who drive out should check in by 7:50 AM for the 8:00 AM boat or 11:50 AM for the noon boat. The operator says parking is free and points drivers to a marked zone.

On the ride back to the harbor, the crew performs hula and shares Hawaiian culture, with time for photos with the crew or a temporary dolphin tattoo.
