From a Catamaran's Front Nets, a Daytona Beach Dolphin Watch

A 75-minute catamaran ride on Daytona's Halifax River for six guests at most, with front-net seats and an eye out for dolphins.

Howling Owl is a Seawind 1000, an Australian-built catamaran, and this public trip takes her out from the marina behind Caribbean Jack's for 75 minutes on the Halifax River, the stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway that runs past Daytona Beach. The operator caps even its shared trips at six guests. The ride stays on the river and does not head out to the ocean.

Reviewers describe a slow, quiet cruise with the captain steering toward whatever wildlife shows up. It suits people who want an easy hour on the water more than a narrated history tour, and a few guests who hoped for more commentary say so.

The booking is a seat on the 75-minute shared trip, with soft drinks, water and a cooler of ice on board. As of October 14, 2026, the listing's calendar offered only the 1:45 PM departure; the 9:45 AM, 11:45 AM and 3:30 PM times it also lists showed no open dates for the next twelve months.

Front Nets, Stern Seats or the Saloon

The boat gives you three places to sit. Up front are the trampolines, nets stretched just above the water that the operator pitches for sunbathing, with the occasional splash. At the stern, seats hang out over the water. In between is a shaded saloon with a table, and there is a restroom on board.

For winter trips the listing promises a heated, enclosed area, and a guest writing in March 2026 about a chilly, windy day says blankets were offered to anyone who wanted to stay outside. The operator adds that a catamaran sails level, without the heeling of a single-hull boat, which it offers as reassurance to anyone wary of seasickness.

The Sails Do Not Always Go Up

The listing sells this as a sailing trip, and guests' own accounts show the sails do not always go up. Several, writing between 2022 and 2024, describe motoring with the mainsail down or only the jib out. Some put it down to light wind; others say there seemed to be wind enough and wish the captain had explained. Guests who came for a proper sail are the ones who mention it with disappointment. Treat a full sail as a bonus and book this for the river and its wildlife.

On a calm day it is a slow cruise up the river and back. Reviewers say the captain turns the boat around when dolphins surface and answers questions as they come.

Dolphins Lead, Manatees Keep to the Warm Months

Dolphins are what guests report seeing most, sometimes a pod with young ones close to the boat, and more than one review describes the captain circling back so everyone could watch. They are not guaranteed, and some trips turned up none.

Manatees are harder to count on. The reviews that report seeing them were posted between April and August, and a guest who asked in November 2025 was told they had gone for the winter. If manatees are the reason you are booking, plan for the warmer months and still treat them as a maybe.

Birds fill the gaps. The listing names pelicans, cormorants and eagles, a guest writing in March 2026 mentions a sea turtle by the dock, and another suggests bringing binoculars.

Bring Your Own Cooler, Leave the Hard Liquor

Soft drinks, water and a cooler with ice come with the booking. The operator says guests on all of its charters may bring their own food and alcoholic drinks, with hard liquor in any form excluded, so beer or wine can come aboard and spirits cannot.

It also suggests carrying food from Caribbean Jack's, the restaurant at the marina, onto the boat.

📍 Meet in front of Caribbean Jack's restaurant, 721 Ballough Road, Daytona Beach. Text or call 386-631-4004 when you arrive; crew in Howling Owl shirts walk you through the marina gate to the boat, and the operator says it will text a photo of the exact meeting point. The map pin marks the marina at the same address.

  • Duration: 75 minutes, returning to the same dock
  • Ages: bookable from age one, with an adult on every booking; guests mention life jackets on board, including for children
  • Cancellation: full refund up to 24 hours before departure; if the operator cancels for weather or too few travelers, you are offered another date or a full refund
  • Access: the listing rates the trip suitable for all fitness levels; the operator's own site does not address wheelchair access, and reaching the boat means walking through the marina gate and along the dock

Caribbean Jack's sits right at the dock, so dinner by the water is a short walk off the boat.
