Description

Friendship formed in 1774 as Alexandria’s first volunteer fire company, organized when open flames heated, lit, and cooked inside a town of mostly wooden buildings. Alongside crews like Sun, Relief, and Hydraulion, volunteers answered enormous blazes across the settlement. The museum keeps their records and historic apparatus on display, centered on rare survivor vehicles including the 1851 Rodgers Suction Engine and an 1858 Prettyman Hose Carriage. Substantially remodeled in 1871 and restored by the city in 1992, the quarters include the first-floor engine bay and two second-floor rooms that also serve as event spaces.
