Description

Setting off from the Mesquite Trailhead in Piestewa Peak Park, this junction serves as the launchpad for both the 3.7-mile Freedom Trail loop and the strenuous Summit Trail. The ascent works through switchbacks and stone stairs among desert cacti and rugged rock formations, climbing toward 2,000 feet of elevation. It is a demanding, well-trafficked route where the physical effort pays off in expansive views over the surrounding desert and city skyline.
