Francis William Bird Park
4.7 (893)park
An 89-acre pastoral retreat with winding footpaths, historic stone bridges, and quiet ponds designed by John Nolen.
Description

Laid out in 1925 by John Nolen, a disciple of Frederick Law Olmsted, the grounds were endowed by Charles Sumner Bird Sr. and his wife Anna as a memorial to their eldest son. Beyond the central paths, the landscape threads past carriage roads framed by ironwork and granite milestones, extending out toward tennis courts. Now maintained by The Trustees of Reservations in East Walpole, the property serves as a community retreat for running and dog walking as much as for studying historic park design.
