Known as the 'Eye of Miami,' this 1878 offshore iron-pile beacon guards the reef southeast of Key Biscayne.
Description

Rising out of Biscayne National Park, the 130-foot structure features a two-story octagonal keeper's dwelling in the Second Empire style, built around a central spiral stairwell that leads up to the lantern room. Its original light source was a first-order Fresnel lens displayed at the 1876 Centennial Exposition. Now solar-powered, the offshore beacon remains under the care of the U.S. Coast Guard.
