A Guided Kayak Trip to Emerald Cave from Arizona
Paddle the Colorado River to Emerald Cave and back from an Arizona marina, with a guide leading the route.
Emerald Cave is a shallow alcove in the canyon wall on the Arizona bank of the Colorado River, and the water inside it reads a strong green that the open river outside does not. Venture Out Vegas guides a small group out to it and back. The trip runs four hours from the time you meet your guide at the water.
The launch is the kayak beach at Willow Beach Marina, downstream of Hoover Dam. Kayaks, paddles and life jackets are handed out there and are covered by the price. No paddling experience is asked for, though the operator does want at least a moderate level of fitness.

Two versions of the same trip are sold. In one you drive yourself to the marina. The other adds round-trip pickup from a set list of Strip hotels and costs more. Both put you on the same water with the same guide for the same four hours.

The group paddles in under the overhang, turns around inside, and leaves through the opening it came in by. There is no passage through to anywhere else. Everyone ends up in the same small pocket of water at the same time, looking back out at the canyon through the mouth of the alcove.
The listing puts the group at ten guests. A single reservation will take up to fifteen travelers, which is a ceiling on the booking form rather than on the boat. The operator's own booking system sets a two-person minimum, and the terms allow a departure to be called off when too few people sign up, so a solo traveler can pay and still be moved to another day. Your guide is the one in a bright green sun shirt with the Venture Out Vegas logo on it.
Four Hours of Flat Water

This reach of the Colorado sits below Hoover Dam. The operator describes the water as calm, and the photographs from inside the canyon show a flat surface with no whitewater anywhere on it. The paddling is steady work. Wind is the variable that shapes the day.
Some of that quiet is written into the rules. The park manages the water from Hoover Dam down to Willow Beach as a primitive zone and bans houseboats, water-skiing and wakeboarding on it all year. Motors and personal watercraft are barred outright on Sundays and Mondays. Pick one of those two days and the only other boats on the stretch are human-powered.
Guides talk through local history along the way and point out bighorn sheep and other animals on the banks, which is how the operator describes the trip. Wildlife is what the day is built around. What any given morning actually turns up will vary.
The Park Gate Is a Separate Payment
Willow Beach sits inside Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and the tour price does not cover getting through the gate. The park's own directory of authorized commercial operators lists this company, under its registered name Vegas Golden Hikes, for canoe and kayak tours. That authorization is the company's. The entrance fee is still yours.
What you pay depends on how you arrive.
- Driving yourself: 25 US dollars per private vehicle, good for one to seven days, covering everyone in the car. A motorcycle is 20.
- Riding the shuttle: the operator's booking notes put entry at 15 US dollars per person.
- Holding an America the Beautiful pass, or on active military duty: entry is covered.
That pass costs 80 US dollars for US citizens and residents and 250 for everyone else, so for most visitors from abroad a single day at the gate is far cheaper than buying in. The park's own annual pass, at 45, is sold to US citizens and residents only. Children under 16 arriving on foot or by bike pay nothing.
From January 2024 the park stopped taking cash at its gates, so bring a card. Willow Beach has its own entrance station.
Departures run every day of the week. Self-drive slots go at 9:30 AM, 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM. The pickup version adds a 10:00 AM slot.
Whether It Fits You
Ages are sold from three years up, and an adult has to be on the booking. Anyone over 290 pounds is asked to call the operator before booking.
The trip is listed as not recommended for pregnant travelers, for people with spinal injuries, and for anyone in poor cardiovascular health. Four hours is a long stretch to sit in a boat under desert sun, and there is no way to cut the day short once the group is on the water.
Booking closes 24 hours ahead of the departure time and confirmation comes back immediately. That same 24 hours is the cancellation line, and a cancellation before it is refunded in full. Gratuities are not included.
This is an outdoor trip and the operator can call it off for weather. That decision arrives by text by 6:00 PM Pacific the night before, and a cancelled departure is rescheduled at no cost or refunded in full, so the phone number on the booking is worth getting right. Shuttle riders get their pickup details in the same message. The operator puts that pickup between 9:45 and 10:15 AM and tells guests to watch for a white van or Cybertruck marked Venture Out Vegas.
The meeting point is the kayak beach boat launch at Willow Beach Marina, which is where the pin on this page sits. Sun cover and drinking water matter more here than anything else you carry, and the stretch inside the alcove is worth keeping a camera within reach for.
