Founding Principles: The Declaration of Independence, Civics, and Staten Island

Opening in June 2026 for the 250th anniversary of the States, this exhibition digs into the origins of local government and the tenets of American democracy, from civil liberties to the separation of powers. Objects and primary source materials from Historic Richmond Town’s 60,000+ collection bring the story together, with a spotlight on the contributions of activists and civil servants. The show is built around encouraging civic participation and stresses the value of engagement at every stage of life.
