Fort Greble Park
4.1 (93)park
A Civil War defense site turned quiet green space, where historic earthworks overlook expansive views of the Potomac.
Description

Set on the heights of Bellevue in Congress Heights, this National Park Service site was built between September 1861 and 1864 as part of the defensive ring around Washington. The fort features an irregular octagonal shape designed to conform to the terrain, named in honor of Lieutenant John Trout Greble after he was killed early in the conflict at the Battle of Big Bethel.
