Description

Established in 1897 as part of the Endicott System, Fort Andrews replaced obsolete masonry forts with concrete batteries and support buildings. The outpost operated through both World Wars and briefly housed members of the Italian Service in World War II before being abandoned in 1947. Today, its former guardhouse serves as the Peddocks Island Visitor Center, set alongside the deteriorating historic batteries.
