Folger Shakespeare Library
4.4 (270)museum
Home to 82 First Folios, this Art Deco library holds the world’s largest Shakespeare archive and an Elizabethan theatre.
Description

Established by Henry Clay Folger and Emily Jordan Folger, the collection reaches well beyond printed folios into early modern manuscripts, rare books, and works of art. A major renovation of the building and grounds opened up public gardens and exhibition galleries alongside an oak-paneled reading room and Elizabethan-revival architectural details. The intimate on-site Elizabethan theatre keeps the venue active with plays, concerts, and public programs, accompanied by the Quill & Crumb café.
