Five Wines, Ninety Minutes, and the Vocabulary to Describe Them
A guided tasting at a bar counter in Ybor City, where the other seats fill with people you have not met. Ninety minutes, five pours, and someone whose job is to explain what is in the glass.
Walking into a wine bar alone and ordering by the glass teaches you very little. You get what you pointed at, and the staff is busy.
This books you a seat at a session that already has a shape. Five wines come out in order. Someone pours them, says what they are, and waits for the room to answer. Every ticket on this booking is an adult ticket, 21 and over.
The clock is fixed at ninety minutes, so you can put something after it.

The bar sits on 7th Avenue inside Centro Ybor, in the walkable stretch of Tampa. Booking confirms straight away.
Wine Tasting Experience in Historic Ybor90 minutes · five pours with small bites · hosted in English at Ybor City Society Wine Barwww.viator.comWhat the five pours are for

The session opens with how wine is made and the words people use for it. Then the pouring starts.
Five wines come out, picked to sit in different places: different styles, different grapes, different regions. Contrast is the whole point of the spread. You are meant to catch that the second glass does something the first one did not.
While that happens the host works through reading a glass by sight, smell and taste, and hands you the terms for it. Body. Acidity. Tannins. By the end you should be able to say what is in front of you without falling back on "nice".
Small bites arrive matched to the pours, so you also get to feel what food does to a wine.
Who you end up sitting with

This is a shared session. The group caps at twenty, and a single booking can take fifteen of those seats. So the mix swings between a room of strangers and a room that is mostly one party with you attached.
Worth knowing if you are booking alone. A table of five celebrating something will talk to each other first. The format pulls against that, because everyone is aimed at the same five glasses and gets asked what they think.
Questions are built into the end of the session rather than squeezed in. Sixty-one people have reviewed this tasting so far and fifty-eight of them gave it five stars.
The bar you are sitting in
Ybor City Society Wine Bar is a neighborhood room, veteran owned and operated, tucked into the 7th Avenue frontage of Centro Ybor. The house keeps around two hundred wines available by the glass or the bottle, with a hundred craft beers, ciders and meads alongside them.
Teaching wine is a standing habit here. The bar runs its own Wine Society tasting every Wednesday at seven, which is a separate thing from this booking, and sells a wine club in four tiers.
The people pouring for you do this every week.
