FIT's Student Radio Teaches DJ Basics, Two Thursdays in October

Both sessions run 1 to 2 PM on FIT's Chelsea campus, and the club's listing puts first-timers and people already mixing in the same room.

Learn DJ basics at WFIT, FIT's student radio.

October 1, if you have never touched a deck

WFIT is FIT's student-run radio and broadcast station, so the people teaching are students who already go on air. The session runs on hands-on guidance at the equipment. You listen to music, bring track ideas, and talk to DJs coming up around the city.

The listing welcomes complete first-timers and people already polishing a set, in the same hour. Take October 1 if you want the longer runway. Whatever you pick up here, you can bring back the following Thursday.

October 8, the same hour a week later

This is the same series on the following Thursday, so it is the one to take if October 1 is already spoken for. Coming to both is the more interesting option. A week in between gives you time to sit with what you picked up and turn up with a real question.

Only these two Thursdays are listed for early October, so if you mean to go, October 8 is the one to hold.

Who gets in, and what to check first

FIT's catalog puts the baseline this way: the school has over 60 clubs and organizations open to current degree-seeking students, and some carry additional membership requirements. WFIT's listing does not say where this session sits on that line.

  • Each session carries a "Register in advance" note, and each one links to its own Engage listing
  • The listing shows no ticket price
  • It gives the campus address on West 27th Street with no building or room, so ask the club where to meet
  • Visiting from outside FIT, check access with the club before you turn up

Two Thursdays, an hour each, and the only thing worth bringing the first time is a few tracks you actually like.
